Bianca Gleissinger is a Vienna-born director and writer based between Berlin and Austria.

After studying Theatre, Film and Media Studies at the University of Vienna and spending a year at Freie Universität Berlin as an ERASMUS scholar, she continued her training at the Deutsche Film- und Fernsehakademie Berlin (DFFB), graduating in 2019. During this time, she worked primarily as a producer on documentary and fiction films.

Her debut feature documentary 27 Storeys – ALTERLAA FOREVER was released in Austrian cinemas in 2023 and became one of the most successful Austrian documentary films of the year. The film premiered internationally in competition at the Zurich Film Festival and was screened at festivals including Diagonale, Max Ophüls Preis, Achtung Berlin and DOK.fest München. It received the Award for Best Cinematography in a Documentary at Diagonale 2023 and was nominated for the Austrian Film Award (Best Documentary), the German Documentary Film Award and the Austrian Romy.

Alongside her cinema work, Gleissinger directs documentary formats for ARTE and collaborates on film and television productions in various capacities, including as producer and intimacy director (e.g. “Sound of falling”, Mascha Schilinski).

She is currently developing the feature documentary Forbidden Fruit (ZDF – Das kleine Fernsehspiel) and the feature film project Burli.

Her work explores documentary storytelling from a first-person perspective, combining structural precision with subtle humour.
